Venkaiah Naidu assures support to Legislators Group on Sustainable Development
Goals
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu today assured the
Legislators Group for Sustainable Development Goals (LG-SDGs) of full support
to their endeavors.
Members of the Legislators Group for SDGs, Shri Harish Chandra Meena, Chairman
of the Group, Shri Ninong Ering and Shri Rahul Kaswan, all Members of
Parliament met Shri Naidu and briefed him of the activities of the Group to
promote awareness on the SDG Agenda among MPs and MLAs. They said that the
Legislators Group would like to influence and support efforts of the
Governments to advance and implement SDGs.
Shri Venkaiah Naidu assured the Group that the Government would be too happy to
enable a detailed discussion in the Parliament on the Sustainable Development
Goals.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved during 2016-30
include:
1.End
poverty in all its forms everywhere;
2.End
hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable
agriculture;
3.Ensure
healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages;
4.Ensure
inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning
opportunities for all;
5.Achieve
gender equality and empower all women and girls; and
6.Make
cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
UN Secretary-General Mr.Ban Ki-Moon has urged the Parliaments to play a
central role in implementing SDG Agenda.

Both Houses of Parliament prorogued
President of India has prorogued both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. Rajya Sabha whose 238th Session commenced on February 23, 2016 has prorogued on March 30,2016 while the 16th Lok Sabha whose 7th Session also commenced on the same was prorogued on March 29,2016.
As per the schedule of Budget session of Parliament announced earlier, both the Houses were to resume the Session on April 25,2016 after recess from March 17 till April 24, 2016 for the meetings of the Department Related Standing Committees for examining the Demands for Grants for 2016-17 of various ministries.
The Budget session of Parliament as per the earlier schedule was to conclude on May 13,2016.
